Email marketing
Email marketing is an app. New shops have it added; if it is missing from your menu, add it from Apps (see Apps). Removing it stops automated marketing emails and puts scheduled campaigns back to drafts. Order emails to your customers keep going.
Consent first
Storeforge only emails a customer who's actually agreed to it: an unticked consent box at checkout, a sign-up form, or a customer you've recorded as having agreed elsewhere. If someone unsubscribes, that always wins, even over data you import later.
Sending from your own mailbox
Marketing email sends from your own mailbox (Gmail, Workspace, or another host), connected under Settings, Email sender with a real test send to prove it works before anything goes to a customer. This keeps your sending reputation your own and costs the platform, and you, nothing extra. Until a sender is connected, nothing leaves the queue, campaigns can't be sent.
Campaigns and segments
Build a one-off campaign with a simple block editor, and target it at a segment (for example, everyone who bought in the last 90 days). New campaigns start pre-filled with your newest products and active discount code, so you're editing a real email rather than starting from nothing.
Automations
Four automations run on their own once switched on: a welcome email for new subscribers, a thank-you after a first order, a review request once an order's delivered, and a win-back for customers who've gone quiet.
Abandoned checkout emails
When a shopper types their email at checkout and leaves without ordering, your shop sends them one reminder about that cart. It is on by default and needs no setup.
- When: after a delay you choose, 1, 6, 10 or 24 hours. 10 hours is the default.
- What they get: their items and the total, a button back to their cart, and an unsubscribe link. The cart comes back at your current prices and stock, and anything sold out is dropped. Nothing is charged.
- How often: one email per cart, and one reminder per address per day. A cart that is more than 3 days old is never emailed. Anyone who has ordered since, or unsubscribed from your shop, is skipped.
To change the delay or switch it off, go to Settings, Notifications, open Abandoned checkout, untick Send abandoned checkout emails and press Save. The same card lets you change the subject, heading and intro of the email. See who is waiting, and send one early, under Orders, Abandoned checkouts (Orders).
Worth knowing: it only catches shoppers who typed a valid email into the checkout form. Settings also has a separate switch, Email a payment link when a card checkout is abandoned. That one is for a card order the shopper already placed but did not pay, and it sends a different email.
Browse reminder
An email for a shopper who looked at products and left. It is off until you tick Send browse reminder emails under Settings, Notifications, in the Browse reminder box.
- It only goes to someone who has joined your email list and has not unsubscribed. A browser is recognised after the shopper signs up through your pop-up or sign-up form, types their email at checkout, or clicks a link in one of your emails. Strangers are never tracked.
- About 20 hours after a visit where they looked at two or more products and added nothing to their cart, they get one email with up to three of those products. If they order or add to cart first, it does not go.
- Each shopper gets at most one a week. It uses your email sender and carries an unsubscribe link.
- We keep the product views for 30 days. Unticking the box, an unsubscribe, or deleting the customer or subscriber removes them straight away.
Shop rules
Shop rules run on their own when something happens in your shop. Open Email marketing, Automations and scroll to Shop rules. Pick a trigger, add any conditions, and choose what should happen.
- Triggers: an order is placed, paid, fulfilled, cancelled or refunded, an order over an amount, an order that contains a product or collection, a customer's Nth paid order, a new customer, a product's stock falling to a number, and a customer asking to return something.
- Conditions: the order total, a customer tag, a collection, how it is delivered, how it was paid, the province, and whether a product is made to order.
- Actions: add or remove a customer tag, email you, email the customer, add a note to the order, add a product to a collection, hide a product, cancel the customer's queued marketing emails, and send an automation.run webhook.
A rule runs once for each order, customer, product or refund it applies to. Run test shows what a rule would do on your most recent matching order, and changes and sends nothing. Each rule keeps a log of its last 100 runs. Six ready-made rules add themselves in one tap.
Unsubscribing
Every marketing email carries a working one-click unsubscribe link. Once someone unsubscribes, they're never emailed again by this shop's marketing, regardless of what a later import says about them.
Importing consent from Shopify
A Shopify customer CSV import carries across whether each customer had already agreed to marketing emails there, so you don't have to ask everyone again.
